Content Week 42/2023
Hope to see you!

Highlight
(I am going to present one [visually attractive] highlight from now on in these posts to avoid that all of them start with #arsboni-screenshots).
I was at one (of the many, many) summits on AI and Law at Vienna’s technical museum earlier this week. This was the view from the meeting venue.

And these were topic and organisers

I presented a critcial view on the upcoming #AIA. There is a short report on the event on Linkedin. Jürgen Haslauer kindly wrote a summary of my talk on Twitter.

Retrospect
#arsboni
I had a very instructive and nice interview with Prof. DDr. Oliver Rathkolb on how it is to study law and to become a historian then. I learned that he had needed to go to the Constitutional Court once to claim access to archives in Austria. A student found the link to the case quickly.
#ORF

I was interviewed on a recent decision on the (lack of) independence in the governance structures of Austria’s public broadcaster ORF. Overview in this Tweet, the vidoe is still to be seen for a few more days via this link and an overview-article was published in Der Standard.
OEAW

I was on a panel at Austria’a Academy of Sciences on data, research and statistics. The presentation is supposed to be published on OEAW’s Youtube-channel (but not there yet).
Data Act
Dr. Žiga Škorjanc hosted a conference on the interplay between data act and GDPR.
This is our keynote-speaker from Volkswagen, Stefan Pinelli, together with (from left to right) Dr. Klaus Steinmaurer head of Austria’s telecom regulator, Dr. Žiga Škorjanc and Dr. Andreas Zavadil from Austria’s Data Protection Authority.
We had decided not to stream/record this as we wanted to keep the discussion as open as possible,

Datenschutzrat
There was a meeting of the Datenschutzrat (which is a consultancy body to the government on data protection) in the Ministry of Justice.

2 of our positions that we agreed on in this meeting were published:
- Entwurf eines Bundesgesetzes, mit dem das Transparenzdatenbankgesetz 2012 geändert wird
- Entwurf eines Bundesgesetzes, mit dem das Grundbuchsumstellungsgesetz, das Rechtspflegergesetz, das Außerstreitgesetz und das Gerichtsgebühren-gesetz geändert werden (Grundbuchs-Novelle 2023 – GB-Nov 2023)
Brussels
I spent Wednesday in Brussels for a review meeting of one of our research projects and felt a little like being in a cage. If you look closely you see the Palais du Justice in the background.

Rust

This was a nice panel in the village Rust on AI on Friday with lots of nice people on the panel and in the audience. Programme: https://businesscircle.at/recht-steuern/konferenz/rust/
Cancer Run
The cancer run, organised by Vienna’s Medical University was fun.

Here is an overview and a Flickr-Stream.
Have a wonderful week!
Kind regards
